Allana Kelley

Speech and Language Therapist, Head of Clinical Education

❝I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in the US in 2001 after achieving a Master of Science Degree and completing my fellowship year by working in a large cancer centre. I’ve had the pleasure of working for the past 20 years as a Speech Therapist specialising in laryngectomy and tracheostomy. I have worked across acute and outpatient settings including intensive care and 5 years as Head and Neck SLT Team Lead at a large NHS Trust in London. I have worked at Atos Medical since 2017 and recently moved into the role of Head of Clinical Education.

2020 was a year of huge growth for our team and our education platform. We quickly had to adapt how we delivered education and training and began delivering online webinars, panel discussions and remote clinical support sessions. I’m proud of what we did to support clinicians during what has been a challenging year for the NHS and I’m excited that we have grown our team to continue to provide even more specialist support and training.

We have a fantastic team with specialist skills across laryngectomy and tracheostomy and are looking forward to another exciting year working with you all!❞

Alison Dempster

Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Educator

❝I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1995. After starting my first hospital position, I soon developed a passion for working with head and neck cancer patients, particularly in the field of laryngectomy. This led to me undertake several specialist head and neck positions within the NHS supporting and assisting laryngectomy patients to regain functional voice and maximise pulmonary function. This resulted in improved patient wellbeing which I found stimulating and extremely rewarding.

I am now delighted to be working as a Clinical Educator at Atos Medical which is providing the valuable opportunity to specialise further in the field of laryngectomy and tracheostomy, assisting and supporting others, with the shared goal of achieving the best possible outcomes and quality of life for patients. The opportunity to work at Atos Medical with ENT Consultants, Specialist Head and Neck Nurses, fellow Speech and Language Therapists, who are equally dedicated to patient-centred care for this group of patients, is intriguing, exciting and fulfilling. This continuous collaboration and learning, underpinned by evidence-based research results in endless development and innovation for laryngectomy and tracheostomy patients.❞

Fay Ramessur

Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Educator

❝I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in June 2001 and commenced working for the NHS as soon as I had graduated. I remained with the NHS in Wales for 20 years in which time I have had a very varied career. In 2019 I completed my Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice which has enhanced my practice further.

My NHS work consisted of working with the adult population in both acute and community settings and I have experience with several different aetiologies ranging from progressive neurological conditions through to facilitating clinics for Head and Neck cancer patients within the local Cancer Treatment Centre. I have experience of carrying out and facilitating assessments using instrumental diagnostic interventions such as FEES and Videofluoroscopy as part of several MDT services including ENT. Alongside this work, I continued to develop my clinical skills in the private sector and most recently have carried out extensive work with tracheostomised patients in slow stream rehabilitation settings looking at pulmonary health and weaning protocols.

I joined Atos in November 2020 as a Clinical Educator in the UK (North) and whilst I am very early into my Atos journey, this has been one of the most fulfilling posts I have held. I am extremely excited to be part of a company that has the patient at the heart of everything they do and is focused on ensuring that they are giving the most up to date, evidence-based information to clinicians and patients alike. I cannot wait to see what 2021 will bring!❞

Sam Rigby

Specialist Physiotherapist, Clinical Educator

Following my MSc (Pre-Reg) Physiotherapy degree qualification I undertook a rotational physiotherapy post, covering various areas within Respiratory, Neurosurgery, Major Trauma and Neurology. After honing my skills within these core areas, I then undertook a specialist role within long term ventilation. I undertook the management of both invasive and non-invasive ventilation for these patients, as well as managing tracheostomies and cough augmentation devices within both the acute setting and the patient’s own homes.

More recently I undertook a post as a static Specialist Physiotherapist in intensive care and respiratory medicine, where I continued to provide specialist assessment for critically ill patients requiring ventilation, as well as tracheostomy management and weaning as part of the MDT.

My interests primarily lie within tracheostomy management and early cuff deflation weaning, as well as cough augmentation, however, my other passion also lies within teaching. I have provided teaching sessions in ventilation and tracheostomy management for a number of years within many different settings, including providing guest lecture sessions to physiotherapy students. It is for these reasons that I am most excited to be working at ATOS Medical, as I cannot wait to share my clinical knowledge with all and work collaboratively towards providing the best care for our patients.❞
